Pallet Rack 101 will have more information than any other course because it will deal with the generalities of pallet racking as well as the details of each system from T-Bolt, Interchangeable, Sturdi-Bilt, as well as Structural and Roll-formed products. The series of courses will cover what information needed from customers, how to fill out data sheets, how to specify durability add-ons and when product substitutions can be made to help get product out faster. Pallet Rack is the basis of most everything we do and all other systems stem from the simple upright and beam, therefore this course includes a multitude of topics and lessons.
Lessons
Components of a Rack System
This lesson will look into all of the various components of a Pallet Racking system including beams and frames with an in-depth breakdown of horizontals, diagonals and then onto accessories including crossbars, row spacers, column protectors and shims.
Pallet Rack Installation
Read through and review the pallet rack installation instructions to familiarize yourself with onsite racking guidelines for a safe installation then take a quiz to review your knowledge. This lesson has a prerequisite of Components of a Rack System.
Pallet Rack User Manual
This lesson will review the UNARCO Pallet Rack User Manual on safe rack use and then provide a quiz to test knowledge. This course has a required prerequisite of the lesson Components of a Rack System.
T-Bolt Racking
This lesson will cover the T-Bolt racking system beam and frame specifications. It will look at the hardware required and the best applications for T-Bolt pallet rack. The prerequisite for this lesson is Components of a Rack System.
Interchangeable Pallet Rack
This lesson will detail the design of the racking systems commonly called interchangeable, due to their interchangeability with other competitors’ interchangeable style systems. The basics of teardrop design and the various beam connectors used for attachment will be discussed as well as the sizes of columns available. The prerequisite for this lesson is Components of a Rack System.
Beam Connectors
This lesson will involve photo identification of all of the various beam connectors from UNARCO as well as competitors. The beam connector is the main determinant in identifying a manufacturer’s rack. Photos and drawings of T-Bolt, Interchangeable, Sturdi-Bilt, and Structural connectors will be show and users will be quizzed on which type or manufacturer is […]
Sturdi-Bilt Rack
Although it is the dinosaur design of the rack industry and the roots of UNARCO racking, Sturdi-Bilt is still standing in many warehouses across the country. This lesson will look at the design of Sturdi-Bilt, the history and the wedge locks that connect it. The only prerequisite for this lesson is Components of a Rack System.
Uprights
This lesson will drill down on some of the details of an upright frame. This will include the horizontals, diagonals, base plates and punching patterns which can be specified. The prerequisite for this lesson is Components of a Rack System.
Beams
This lesson will examine pallet rack beams in depth with different sizes, shapes, gauges and punching options. The prerequisite for this class is Components of a Rack System.
Types of Rack Applications
This lesson will give a quick overview of each application for rack including Selective Pallet Rack, Carton Flow, Pallet Flow, Push Back, Drive-In/Drive-Thru, and Pick Modules. It is segmented by product type i.e. pallet, carton, case, bin and discusses LIFO, FIFO inventory management. The prerequisite for this lesson is Components of a Rack System.
Structural Rack Bolted
Learn about structural racking components including sizes of C-shaped beams and frames and their capacities.
Structural Interchange & Hybrid Rack
Structural Interchange takes the strength of structural uprights and structural beams or allows the addition of a more cost-effective option using roll-formed beams. Keyhole punched structural C-channels can receive many styles of interchangeable beams. This option is often referred to as Hybrid Rack because it combines two different steel types. The prerequisite for this lesson […]
Rack Material Worksheet
This lesson will help with the details of how to fill out the Rack Material Worksheet to ensure that all appropriate information is gathered in the design of a racking system. From pallet size and weight to ceiling height and zip code, users will be able to gather data to make sure the customer’s order […]
Durability & Safety Add-Ons
Because forklifts and pallet jacks are in constant contact with the racking system, UNARCO has designed a number of components to help protect the rack. This lesson will cover double column uprights, straddle protectors and column protectors as well as wood filled uprights and crossbars. Quick information will also be given about Load Plaques and […]
Rack Substitutions
Sometimes lead times are longer than customers want to wait. For this reason Customer Service and Sales need to think about ways to better serve the customer. It may become necessary to examine qualifying substitutions such as a beam with the same or greater capacity or an upright of a different shape that can handle […]
Pallet Rack Manufacturer Identification
This lesson will examine our competitors styles of racking past and present and act as a guide for identifying other manufacturers’ pallet rack designs.
