Engineering for Rack 101

university-of-unarcoThis series of courses will guide you through simple capacity lookups and into calculating capacities of specialty frames.  It will examine seismic applications and their effects on the racking design. After completion of this full course you will be able to confidently specify racking elements for projects with selective Pallet Racking in any seismic zone. Further lessons will focus on installation and proper use of Pallet Rack and the safe inspection of on-site projects.

Lessons

Beam Capacities

Length: 35 minutesAuthor: llascara

This lesson will cover the use of tools which calculate beam capacities in Pallet Racking. Learn how to use the Beam Calculation Program for odd sized beam calculations. This course has a prerequisite of Components of a Rack System.

Upright Capacities

Length: 35 minutesAuthor: llascara

Learn how to read capacity charts and use engineering programs to calculate upright load capacities. This course has a prerequisite of Components of a Rack System.

Seismology for Rack Systems

Length: 40 minutesAuthor: llascaraComplexity: Easy

Rack systems must be designed to withstand the vibration of an earthquake. Different areas of the country have different seismic criteria for design. Each building code has seismic zone map that can be accessed by zip code or longitude and latitude. This lesson will look into how rack can stand up to an earthquake and what are some of the standard components that must be added in higher seismic zones. This lesson has a prerequisite of Components of a Rack System.

Engineering Lingo

Author: llascara

This is an advanced lesson for engineering terms and their meanings which uses the RMI vocabulary terms as a study guide.  While these terms are common vocab for Jim Crews, others only smile and pretend to know what they mean.  This lesson will include an explanation presentation from Jim Crews.  The prerequisites for this lesson […]

RMI Frequently Asked Questions Part 2

Length: 35 minutesAuthor: llascara

This is the second of three parts of questions that are frequently asked of the RMI. This section will cover Designs/Codes/Standards & Permits. The prerequisite for this course is Components of a Rack System, but an understanding of engineering terms will be helpful to fully grasp the content and answer the questions on the quiz.

RMI Frequently Asked Questions Part 3

Length: 35 minutesAuthor: llascara

This lesson is the final part of a three part series of questions that are frequently asked of the RMI. This section covers Installation, Application, Safety and Performance of racking systems. The prerequisite for this course if Components of a Rack System, but an understanding of engineering terminology is necessary to fully comprehend the material and answer the quiz questions.

RMI Frequently Asked Questions Part 1

Length: 30 minutesAuthor: llascara

This is part one of three parts of a listing of frequently asked questions involving storage material that was created by the RMI (Rack Manufacturers Institute). It covers a broad range of topics with rack and calculations for projects. Components of a Rack System is a required prerequisite, however, basic engineering knowledge and terminology will be needed to understand the lesson completely.

Basic Quoting

Length: 20 minutesAuthor: llascaraComplexity: Standard

Almost all of the orders that are placed with UNARCO begin with a quote sent to the customer. The quote states the details of the intended project, the engineered rack solutions that meet the needs of the customer, the cost, and lead time to produce the job. We have a team of Estimators that work […]
